Hi, I’m Fernanda. I’m the creative force behind Cook for Thought. I have a lifetime of culinary experience, a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Nutrition, I am a Certified Nutritionist by the WA Department of Health, I’m a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; ServSafe, First Aid and CPR certified. I am the local Ambassador for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution project. But mainly, I am a mother of two and I believe that cooking is a vital life skill.
Born and raised in Southern Brazil to an Italian descent family, I come from an eclectic culinary background where the family’s backbone was the kitchen. Roots were passed on inter-generationally in a natural, organic, intrinsic manner.
My early professional life revolved around Dietetics and Nutrition Science. Computer software, pills and powders, print outs of dietetic recommendations. I soon realized that was a nourishment gap that needed to be closed.
And then I became a Mother…
I saw the enormous potential for combining food, nutrition, cooking, academic and social learning by observing and interacting with my young daughters. The different ways that they learn, their social interactions and their relation to food compared to mine – in juxtaposition with the urgent need for food culture and nutrition awareness our society faces, culminated in the birth of Cook for Thought.
Now I find myself spearheading a dream, a mission, a passion. I want to close that nourishment gap by teaching through cooking. I want every school-aged child to learn real cooking skills while reinforcing school curriculum, sharpening social skills and developing global citizenship. I want to keep hearing that “cooking class is the best time of my day”, and “that salad was super awesome”.
Ambitious? Of course. Necessary? Absolutely. Possible? Heck, YEAH!
And for you and your child, that means unsurpassed commitment and quality in nutrition and culinary education – in every curriculum I develop, every recipe I write and test, every ingredient I source and every class I teach.
